For instance, a 1GB file in an older archive would be replaced by a ~2KB shortcut to an exact duplicate of that file, if DKP found such a duplicate in a newer archive. For instance, there was a folder named H:\. My HIST_ARCHIVE drive (H) contained one folder each, for a series of backups of my DATA drive.
